Life Care Center of Charleston, South Carolina, recently received the Business Development Award of Excellence for parent company Life Care Centers of America’s Bluegrass Region.
On Dec. 2, Life Care’s Eastern Division held a banquet at the company’s headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, bestowing honors on one skilled nursing and rehab facility per each of its five regions. The awards recognize facilities for innovative programs in serving their communities.
Life Care Center of Charleston was nominated for its Pumpkin Patch event from Oct. 15 – 31.
The facility set up a creative pumpkin display in the front yard and gave vouchers for free pumpkins to local hospital case managers and therapists. Not only did they come to pick out their pumpkins, but many brought their families with them for pictures and a sweet treat from the facility’s ice cream parlor.
During the event, the center gave away 42 pumpkins and led facility tours for several who wanted to learn more about the facility.
“It was bigger than what we expected, and it came from such a spontaneous idea,” said Donna Moynihan, director of business development at the facility. “Sometimes the best marketing ideas come from brainstorming.”
At the facility itself, residents and their families also took advantage of the photo opportunity and snapped fall portraits.
“The internal marketing was just as valuable as the external marketing,” Moynihan added.
Life Care Center of Charleston plans to make the Pumpkin Patch an annual event.
